Treatment of Shoulder Calcifications – Our Solution

Barbotage is a procedure in which calcifications, or calcium deposits, are removed under ultrasound guidance.

Is the Procedure Painful and How Long Does It Take?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia using needles. Depending on the consistency of the calcium deposits, they are either aspirated or broken down and flushed out with saline solution. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.

When Is Barbotage the Treatment of Choice?

Barbotage is most commonly performed for calcium deposits in the shoulder tendons when they cause pain and restricted movement, particularly when medication and physical therapy have not provided sufficient improvement.

What If Pain Occurs After the Procedure?

If pain occurs after the procedure, paracetamol may be recommended for pain relief.

Can the Procedure Be Repeated?

The procedure can be repeated after 6 weeks if the desired result has not been fully achieved.
