How to Recognise Vision Problems in Children Early

Vision problems in children often go unnoticed because children assume that everyone sees the same way they do. That is why it is important to pay attention to the following signs:

Viewing Habits

  • Sitting very close to the TV or holding a phone close to the face
  • Holding books or toys very close to the eyes
  • Squinting, tilting the head, or closing one eye while looking at something

Physical Symptoms

  • Frequently rubbing the eyes
  • Watery or red eyes
  • Complaining of headaches or eye strain

Behaviour and Learning

  • Losing their place while reading
  • Skipping letters or words
  • Avoiding drawing, reading, or writing
  • Difficulty concentrating or declining performance at school

Coordination and Movement

  • Appearing clumsy, frequently tripping or bumping into objects
  • Difficulty catching a ball or judging distances

Visible Changes in the Eyes

  • One eye turns or is not properly aligned (possible strabismus)
  • A cloudy or unusual reflection is visible in the eye
