There are certain signs that should not be ignored and that require an examination by an orthopaedic specialist or physiatrist.
These are some of the key symptoms:
- Persistent or severe pain in the joints, bones, back, or muscles, especially if it lasts for more than a few days or gets worse;
- Pain that occurs at night or interferes with sleep;
- Pain following an injury, even if there is no visible swelling or bruising;
- Limited mobility: inability to move a joint normally or morning stiffness lasting longer than 30 minutes;
- Loss of function, such as being unable to raise your arm, bend your knee, or make a fist;
- Deformities: visible changes in the shape of a joint, bone, or spine, including lumps, protrusions, or curvatures that were not previously present;
- Swelling and redness: persistent swelling of a joint or surrounding tissue, especially when accompanied by pain, warmth, or redness;
- Stiffness and weakness: persistent stiffness in the neck, back, or limbs, loss of strength, or numbness in the arms, legs, or fingers.
